Romans 10:11-13, Three Truths About Salvation

Romans 10:11-13, “For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed. For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek: for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon him. For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.

There are three wonderful truths that I want to teach you from this Scripture passage:

  1. WHOSOEVER BELIEVES ON THE NAME OF JESUS WILL NOT BE DISSAPONTED - Romans 10:11 is a quote from the Old Testament. Isaiah 28:16, “Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD, Behold, I lay in Zion for a foundation a stone, a tried stone, a precious corner stone, a sure foundation: he that believeth shall not make haste.” The Hebrew word for “haste” here is chush, which means, “to hurry.” That is, you won't have to run away like a dog with his tail tucked between his legs someday, ashamed that your faith was in faith in Christ. Romans 10:11 is God's promise to you dear reader, that if you believe on Jesus Christ, you will never be let down!

I have heard ignorant preachers on the radio say that Romans 10:11 means you are not really saved if you are ashamed of Jesus, but that is inaccurate. We have biblical proof that you CAN be ashamed of Jesus and still be saved. One such example is the Apostle Peter, who vehemently denied knowing Jesus, cursing The Lord's name in shame. Peter was afraid. Yet, Peter was still saved. Peter didn't lose his security in Christ. Another example are the many chief rulers in John 12:42-43. The Bible says they believed, yet for fear of the Pharisees they “DID NOT CONFESS HIM.” So again we see that you CAN be saved and yet refuse to acknowledge being a Christian, for whatever reason.

  2. SALVATION IS THE SAME FOR JEWS AND GENTILES - Here's another practical truth that you can put in your pocket and take with you. The Bible says repeatedly that salvation is THE SAME for Jews and Gentiles (Greeks). There has always been only one Gospel. Old Testament saints were saved by faith, the same as New Testament saints are saved by faith. Acts 10:43, “To him give all the prophets witness, that through his name whosoever believeth in him shall receive remission of sins.”

Galatians 3:26-29, “For ye are all the children of God by faith in Christ Jesus. For as many of you as have been baptized into Christ have put on Christ. There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus. And if ye be Christ's, then are ye Abraham's seed, and heirs according to the promise.”
As we just plainly read, Heaven is color blind. Underneath we are all the same. It doesn't matter if you are Jewish or Gentile, we are all ONE in Christ.

There is a false teaching that is popular in many churches today called “Zionism.” This heresy basically claims that Jews are privileged, having their own plan of salvation. Pastor John Hagee is a Zionist, who preaches that Jews don't need to be born-again. Hagee says Jews can get to Heaven by keeping the Old Testament law. What did Jesus say? John 3:3, “Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.” The Lord said that to Nicodemus, a Jew. My critique of Zionist Theology is NOT an attack against the Jews, God forbid. I love Jewish people. I love Arabs. I love everyone. This issue is a matter of what the Bible teaches (or does not teach), and not about my opinion or yours.

According to the Lord, everyone must be born anew from above to enter into God's Kingdom. According to the Apostle Paul, we are all ONE in Christ. Romans 10:12 says THERE IS NO DIFFERENCE. No unsaved Jew will ever enter into the Promised Land (all the land from the Nile River in Egypt up to the Euphrates River in Syria) in the future, when Christ reigns as King over the earth from Jerusalem. And no saved Gentile will ever miss out. Galatians 3:7, “Know ye therefore that they which are of faith, the same are the children of Abraham.” What a wonderful Bible verse! Please don't miss that friend. Only they that “ARE OF FAITH” are the children of Abraham (true Jews in God's sight).

I do NOT believe in Replacement Theology (i.e., the teaching that the Church replaces Israel). I do not believe there ever was a time when God's promises applied to a bunch of unsaved biological Jews. There never was anything to replace. From the very start, God's made the promises to CHRIST (seed, singular) and not to the JEWS (seeds, plural). Don't take my word for it. After all this blog's intent is to teach the Bible accurately. What saith the Scripture? Galatians 3:16, “Now to Abraham and his seed were the promises made. He saith not, And to seeds, as of many; but as of one, And to thy seed, which is Christ.” There you have it, right from the horse's mouth! God never promised to bless unbelieving hellbound Jews! The promises of God have always followed A LINE OF FAITH from the very beginning.

  3. WE ARE SAVED SIMPLY BY BELIEVING ON CHRIST - Romans 10:13, “For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved. The Bible calls the Gospel “the simplicity that is in Christ” (2nd Corinthians 11:3-4). God had to make the plan of salvation simple, because there are a lot of stupid people in the world. I say that kindly and seriously. Some people aren't that bright. God intentionally made the plan of salvation so simple, free and easy that even a small child can be saved. Anyone who comes to Jesus as a guilty sinner (Romans 3:19-20), receiving His sacrifice on the cross as payment for their sins, believing that Jesus was buried and three days later bodily resurrected from the dead is saved. It is that simple! Nothing more is required.

I witnessed to a staff member at the Harvest Baptist Church of Guam in 2014. The man is a teacher in their school as Harvest Baptist Academy. I asked him if he believed a person could admit they are a sinner and believe the Gospel to be saved. He replied, “Uh, I think there's a little more required than that to be saved.” I know immediately that he wasn't really saved. NO ONE is saved who thinks that more than faith is required to be saved. If you admit that you are a SINNER and by faith rest in the SAVIOR, you are saved immediately, irrevocably and permanently. Hebrews 4:10-11, “For he that is entered into his rest, he also hath ceased from his own works, as God did from his. Let us labour therefore to enter into that rest, lest any man fall after the same example of unbelief.” I love that! The only “work” a person can do to be saved is to rest in Christ. Faith is the only righteous thing that I can do! John 6:28-29, “Then said they unto him, What shall we do, that we might work the works of God? Jesus answered and said unto them, This is the work of God, that ye believe on him whom he hath sent.”

Aren't those wonderful Bible truths? I love teaching the Bible. Anyone who chooses to place their eternal destiny in Christ's hands, making the Gospel their only hope for Heaven, will never be disappointed. Jesus won't fail us! My only hope for Heaven is Jesus...

My hope is built on nothing less
than Jesus’ blood and righteousness.
I dare not trust the sweetest frame
but wholly lean on Jesus’ name.

God is no respecter of persons friend. It doesn't matter who you are. It doesn't matter who your daddy is. It doesn't matter what kind of past or reputation you have. All that matters is whether you believe on Jesus as the Christ, the only begotten Son of God. 1st Corinthians 2:2, “For I determined not to know any thing among you, save Jesus Christ, and him crucified.”
