Exodus 12:12-14, “When I See The Blood”

Exodus 12:12-14, “For I will pass through the land of Egypt this night, and will smite all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, both man and beast; and against all the gods of Egypt I will execute judgment: I am the LORD. And the blood shall be to you for a token upon the houses where ye are: and when I see the blood, I will pass over you, and the plague shall not be upon you to destroy you, when I smite the land of Egypt. And this day shall be unto you for a memorial; and ye shall keep it a feast to the LORD throughout your generations; ye shall keep it a feast by an ordinance for ever.

This is one of my favorite passages of Scripture. Truly, I could write a whole blog just about this passage, concerning the precious blood of Jesus and the Passover lamb, which symbolizes the Lamb of God. John 1:29, “The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world.” I won't read the whole story to you, because you can read it for yourself in Exodus chapter 12. The Hebrews were enslaved in bondage in Egypt. God raised up His servant Moses as their deliverer. The Lord used Moses and his brother Aaron to wreak havoc upon the Egyptians with Ten Plagues.

The tenth and most deadly plague was the death of the firstborn, of all human and animal life. The Lord instructed Moses to have the people kill a male lamb, one without spot or blemish, and collect the lamb's blood, applying it to each home's doorposts and lintel (the plate above the door). I'd like to make a few very important observations:

  1. THE BLOOD HAD TO BE APPLIED - It wasn't enough to merely kill the lamb, the blood had to be sprinkled upon the home's doorposts and lintel. The Lord wasn't looking for a dead lamb in the backyard, He was only looking for THE BLOOD applied. The lamb's blood symbolized Jesus' blood which would one day be sprinkled upon the heavenly Mercy Seat. Hebrews 12:24, “And to Jesus the mediator of the new covenant, and to the blood of sprinkling, that speaketh better things than that of Abel.” Abel was justified by faith, evidenced by the blood sacrifice that he offered God. Pastor John MacArthur teaches that it was only Jesus' death on the cross, and not His literal blood, that saves us. The Bible calls Mr. MacArthur a liar. Hebrews 9:12, “Neither by the blood of goats and calves, but by his own blood he entered in once into the holy place, having obtained eternal redemption for us.”
  2. THE LORD WAS ONLY LOOKING FOR THE BLOOD - Kindly said, John MacArthur is not a born-again believer. MacArthur is wrong on the blood. He is wrong on repentance. He is wrong on the Gospel. The Bible says in Exodus 12:13b that the Lord was looking for THE BLOOD. He said, when I see the blood, I will pass over you...If the family killed the lamb, but didn't apply the blood, the firstborn died. Likewise, if Jesus only died on the cross and raised up, but He didn't ascend into Heaven to sprinkle His liquid blood upon the Mercy Seat in the Holy Place, no sinner could ever be saved. Hebrews 9:22-24, “And almost all things are by the law purged with blood; and without shedding of blood is no remission. It was therefore necessary that the patterns of things in the heavens should be purified with these; but the heavenly things themselves with better sacrifices than these. For Christ is not entered into the holy places made with hands, which are the figures of the true; but into heaven itself, now to appear in the presence of God for us:”
  3. NOTHING HAS CHANGED TODAY - God is still looking at Christ's blood applied to the heavenly Mercy Seat, which is the only reason you and I can go to Heaven. 1st John 1:7, “But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.” It is not by our goodness, nor by any works that we could ever do, nor by water baptism, nor by turning away from our sinful behavior, nor by living the Christian life; but rather, it is only by the precious blood of Jesus that we can be forgiven of our sins, redeemed and go to Heaven someday. The Lord did not check to see who inside the home was worthy, He checked for THE BLOOD on the doorposts! None of us is worthy. Only the blood of Jesus can forever wash our sins away.

What a beautiful passage of Scripture. And may I say, so many preachers woefully ignore this passage of Scripture. In Evangelist Ray Comfort's 'The Evidence Bible,' he totally ignores this precious passage of Scripture. Even worse, the Devil's modern Bible revisions change it. Look what the ungodly Literal Standard Version (LSV) does to torment and pervert this passage...

Exodus 12:13 In LSV Changes Future Tense To Past Tense

The Lord said, as translated accurately in the King James Bible: “WHEN I SEE THE BLOOD, I WILL PASS OVER YOU”!!! But the Satanic Literal Standard Version (LSV) changes it to: “I HAVE SEEN THE BLOOD, AND HAVE PASSED OVER YOU.” Huh? The Lord announced to Moses what He was going to do, not what He had already done. Even the LSV speaks in present tense for the first 11 verses of Exodus chapter 12, but then in verse 12 it bizarrely switches to past tense, which makes no sense at all. I know exactly why they did that. By U.S. law, in order to obtain a legal copyright, translators MUST butcher God's Word to ensure that “changes are substantial and creative, something more than just editorial changes or minor changes.” The LSV drastically changes Exodus 12:13 from present to past tense, which is as deceitful and evil as can be!

Here is verse 3 to compare, which shows that God is speaking in present tense...
KING JAMES BIBLE (KJB) - Exodus 12:13, “Speak ye unto all the congregation of Israel, saying, In the tenth day of this month they shall take to them every man a lamb, according to the house of their fathers, a lamb for an house:”

LITERAL STANDARD VERSION (LSV) - Exodus 12:13, “speak to all the congregation of Israel, saying, In the tenth of this month they take to themselves, each man, a lamb for the house of the fathers, a lamb for a house.”
Moses was commanded to instruct the Hebrews to kill a spotless lamb (which symbolizes the sinless Son of God), and then to apply that lamb's blood to the doorposts of the home, so the firstborn would live. But the LSV changes it to past tense. Why would Moses tell the people what has already happened? It makes no sense! ...
KING JAMES BIBLE (KJB) - Exodus 12:13, “And the blood shall be to you for a token upon the houses where ye are: and when I see the blood, I will pass over you, and the plague shall not be upon you to destroy you, when I smite the land of Egypt.”

LITERAL STANDARD VERSION (LSV) - Exodus 12:13, “And the blood has become a sign for you on the houses where you [are], and I have seen the blood, and have passed over you, and a plague is not on you for destruction in My striking in the land of Egypt.”
Do you see how stupid the LSV is dear reader? The King James Bible makes perfect sense. Again we see how the LSV translators had no choice but to torture the Bible (which is what the word “wrest” means in 2nd Peter 3:16), because in order to come up with something new, due to the hundreds of English Bibles already in existence, they had to get wildly creative. It is insane theology! I hope you see dear reader why I expose the Devil's modern Bible revisions. Please use only the King James Bible.

Yes, you need to study the King Bible to understand it, but the newer Bibles are corrupt, so that you'll never find the truth and instead be misled. With the lackadaisical attitude of Bible publishers, pastors and professors toward the infallibility and inspiration of the Word of God, should it be surprising that they also have a lackadaisical attitude toward right doctrine and the accuracy of the Gospel?
