The Growing “Repent Of Your Sins” Controversy

Acts 16:29-31, “Then he called for a light, and sprang in, and came trembling, and fell down before Paul and Silas, And brought them out, and said, Sirs, what must I do to be saved? And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house.”

In the inspired King James Bible we find numerous passages where someone was converted, that is, born again, saved. Yet, not once do we find any mention of someone being required to “repent of your sins” of to get to Heaven. Part of man's inherent sinful nature is to remedy bad works with good works. We see this with Adam and Eve when they ate of the forbidden fruit in the Garden of Eden. The Bible says they sewed fig leaves together to make aprons...
Genesis 3:6-7, “And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat. And the eyes of them both were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together, and made themselves aprons.”
God rejected their fig leaf religion! Adam and Eve sought to remedy their bad works with good works, but the payment for sin is not works, it is death. Jesus had to die for our sins. If we were to pay for our own sins, we would have to die both the first and the second death, burning in the fires of Hell forever. That is the just punishment that we deserve for our own sins!

Nowhere does the inspired King James Bible teach that to be saved a person must “repent of your sins.” Ungodly but sincere men added those words to God's simple plan of salvation.

Evangelist Mark G. Cambron (1911-2000) explains repentance accurately:
The Greek word for repent is metanoeo, which, translated into English is: “to change ones mind.” It does not mean to turn from sin. That would add works to salvation.
Repentance for salvation means a change of mind from men's ideas of salvation and religion, to an acceptance of Gods only way of salvation.

This results in a completely new creation, not a reformation of the old. The old nature remains as evil as ever after salvation and has not been reformed . . . The old nature can now be controlled by the indwelling power of the Holy Spirit.

God guarantees salvation. This is His gift to us.
God guarantees reward and fruit to the obedient son.
God guarantees chastening and loss of rewards to the disobedient son.

God does not cast out disobedient children, but in some cases, does take them home. He does not permit His children to live as they please without His discipline and guidance.
Many teach repentance for salvation incorrectly, by including some form of human effort or righteousness, such as willingness to turn from sin, or turning from sin. This is heresy and has confused many people. It adds works to salvation and causes many to not understand Gods great gift. It is probation, not salvation. It is completely unscriptural. It is Galatianism and a counterfeit of the gospel.

It is a tragedy that many Christians live shallow Christian lives. The Cambron Institute is dedicated to the task of training Christian men and women in the importance of total dedication and making Jesus the Lord of their lives not to be saved but because they are saved.

Shallow Christianity cannot be cured by adding works to salvation.

Salvation is not the result of what we do, but is by receiving what God has done for us. Acts 13:38, 39; Acts 20:20: Gal. 1:8,9; Gal. 2:4; Gal. 2:21; Gal. 3:1.3; Gal. 5:1-4; Eph. 2:8-10; II Cor. 5:21;John 3:16-18; Phil. 3:9; Titus 3:5-8:11 Cor. 11:13-1 5.

Boy, that was great! Thank God for the few doctrinally sound preachers that He has blessed us with. Sadly, over 95% of pastors, missionaries, evangelists, religious professors and church laymen today are Bible ignoramuses, parroting heresy that they've heard taught by other heretics. Be a Berean! Search the Scriptures daily and learn to be objective by thinking for yourself.

Bible colleges, theological seminaries, missionary boards and churches all across America have bought into the Devil's lies of Lordship Salvation and Misunderstood Repentance. It is tragic. These counterfeit plans of salvation (really damnation) hinder lost sinners from being born again. The false idea that God will not save you unless you're first willing to forsake your sinful bad habits and follow Christ in obedience is not the Gospel Paul preached in 1st Corinthians 15:1-4, which he received directly from Christ Himself (Galatians 1:12).

Another gospel is being preached from nearly every pulpit today. I read a wonderful book several years ago by Christian writer Michael P. Bowen, 'I NEVER KNEW YOU' (free .pdf format edition), which helpful book compares the false plan of salvation taught by ten popular big name preachers, versus what Jesus and the Bible actually teach. If you have any doubts about your salvation, this book is for you dear reader. You will be blessed, I am confident.

I have given hard copies of this book to many people in my life, including my doctors, nurses, neighbours, a musician friend, et cetera. I always let them know upfront that I will never ask them if they've read the book, nor ask what they think about it. It's just my way of sharing my Christian faith.

That being said, I have had Baptist pastors become greatly offended after I gave them this book, because it exposes the Devil's lies of Lordship Salvation and Misunderstood Repentance. When I attended Harvest Baptist Church on Guam in 2013 to 2014, for one year, the pastors were very offended and upset with me when I handed them this truthful book. The pastor's son in law, who was an associate pastor at their church, refused to even talk to me after I gave him a copy of the book. I was horribly called into the church office, confronted and falsely accused by their wicked pastors of causing confusion and divisiveness in the church. It is they who caused the divisiveness and confusion with their deadly modern English Bible revisions, perverse Lordship Salvation, and demonic repent of your sins garbage.

This tommyrot, balderdash, poppycock, tomfoolery, claptrap, blahblah and flapdoodle sadly exists in nearly every religious institution and church today, including Pensacola Christian College and Bob Jones University. They have another gospel, not the free grace Gospel. It has become so bad that many believers no longer attend any church in their local area because they cannot find one that is doctrinally sound. I know because they write to me in frustration. I know because I am having the same problem in Pensacola. Today's churches are pathetic!

Dear reader, if you cannot find a local church that doesn't teach you must repent or turn from your sins to get to Heaven, then please just stay home. Take your family to the park for a picnic, where at least they won't be corrupted with a counterfeit plan of salvation that will send them to Hell forever.

Although I have much respect for Dr. John R. Rice (1895-1980), he was only a man fully capable of error and he did a great disservice to the Christian world by foolishly defining Bible repentance as turning away from sin with all your heart (which you can read in his popular tract titled, 'What Must I Do To Be Saved?' Consequently, the corrupt Southern Baptist Convention (SBC) has adopted Brother Rice's teachings verbatim on repentance, promoting damnable heresy.

Repentance is a change of mind, not turning from sin. When you tell a lost sinner that they must repent by “turning from sin with all your heart,” you have just horribly placed a surmountable gargantuan burden upon their shoulder, which is not the free gift of God. Any plan of salvation that requires YOU to pay a price, surrender all, make a commitment, exchange all that you are for all that Jesus is—you have just met the Devil.

Eternal Life Is A “Free Gift”

Carefully notice in the following beautiful passage of inspired Scripture that the phrase “free gift” is mentioned three times, and the phrase “the gift” is also mentioned three times. ...

Romans 5:15-18, “But not as the offence, so also is the free gift. For if through the offence of one many be dead, much more the grace of God, and the gift by grace, which is by one man, Jesus Christ, hath abounded unto many. And not as it was by one that sinned, so is the gift: for the judgment was by one to condemnation, but the free gift is of many offences unto justification. For if by one man's offence death reigned by one; much more they which receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness shall reign in life by one, Jesus Christ.) Therefore as by the offence of one judgment came upon all men to condemnation; even so by the righteousness of one the free gift came upon all men unto justification of life.”

That is SIX TIMES total that we read the word “gift.” And yet, incompetent neo-evangelical pastors everywhere today are wickedly teaching that you cannot be saved without forsaking your lifestyle of sinning, becoming a Christ follower, surrendering “all” to Jesus and inviting Christ into your life, none of which are the Gospel.

Pastor Harry Ironside (1876-1951) said it well...

“The Gospel is not a call to repentance, or to amendment of our ways, to make restitution for past sins, or to promise to do better in the future. These things are proper in their place, but they do not constitute the Gospel; for the Gospel is not good advice to be obeyed, it is good news to be believed. Do not make the mistake then of thinking that the Gospel is a call to duty or a call to reformation, a call to better your condition, to behave yourself in a more perfect way than you have been doing in the past …

Nor is the Gospel a demand that you give up the world, that you give up your sins, that you break off bad habits, and try to cultivate good ones. You may do all these things, and yet never believe the Gospel and consequently never be saved at all.”

SOURCE: Harry A. Ironside, from the tract: 'What Is The Gospel?'

Amen and amen! Dear reader, please do not let some ungodly arrogant pastor full of pride deceive you concerning God's simple plan of salvation. Eternal life and forgiveness of sins are the free gift of God, paid for by the precious blood of Jesus Christ (1st Peter 1:18-19).

Salvation is not a reward for the righteous, it is a gift for the guilty.

Salvation is not doing your best, it is having Christ's best put to your account through receiving Him by faith.

Turning away from sinful ways would be a work. Faith puts all of the merit where it belongs, on the object of our faith, Jesus and His work.

The true Gospel always points you to CHRIST; a false gospel always points to YOU.

If salvation is truly by grace, then you don't need to start or stop anything to be saved. Eternal life is a free gift from God (Romans 6:23).

One is saved by God's grace through faith in the finished Work of His Son on the Cross as payment in full as our pardon for sin.
