John 1:48-49, “Nathanael saith unto him, Whence knowest thou me? Jesus answered and said unto him, Before that Philip called thee, when thou wast under the fig tree, I saw thee. Nathanael answered and saith unto him, Rabbi, thou art the Son of God; thou art the King of Israel.”
One of my ministry friends is Onorato Diamante. I fully support his Bible preaching and am thankful for his free grace preaching. In the following video, Onorato rightly exposes a false teaching by Pastor Steven Anderson, in which Brother Anderson denies that Jesus was omnipotent, omniscient and omnipresent while on earth...
Steve Anderson: God in the Flesh — NOT Omnipotent, Omniscient, or Omnipresent (While On This Earth)
Pastor Anderson bases his heresy on Luke 2:52, “And Jesus increased in wisdom and stature, and in favour with God and man.” This verse doesn't dismiss Jesus' deity. To clarify, Pastor Anderson does not deny Jesus' deity. He plainly teaches that Jesus is almighty God, which is 100% biblical. But for some strange reason Brother Anderson doesn't believe that Jesus was omnipotent, omniscient and omnipresent while on earth. I humbly couldn't disagree more!
Jesus forgave men's sins while on earth, which only God is able to do. This proves Jesus' omnipotence. Even the wicked unbelieving Scribes and Pharisees knew the truth that only God can forgive sin (Luke 5:21). Jesus did not leave His omnipotence in Heaven while on earth.
In Matthew 26:53, Jesus rebuked the Apostle Peter for drawing out his sword to fight. Peter had just cut off the ear of the high priest's servant. Jesus healed the man (omnipotence) and told Peter that He could call twelve legions of angels (72,000) if He wanted (omnipotence); so he didn't need Peter's help. That is omnipotence! No mortal man could have commanded Heaven's angels.
Again and again in the Scripture we see that Jesus was omnipotent, omniscient and omnipresent while on earth. In Matthew chapter 24 Jesus gives vivid details of the future Tribulation period (omniscience). No mortal man could have known these things. In John 2:24-25, Jesus avoided the people because the Bible says He “knew what was in man.” This is omniscience!
While on earth, Jesus performed miracles that no other man ever did, proving His deity and omnipotence. John 15:24-25, “If I had not done among them the works which none other man did, they had not had sin: but now have they both seen and hated both me and my Father. But this cometh to pass, that the word might be fulfilled that is written in their law, They hated me without a cause.”
I am astonished that Pastor Anderson is denying Jesus' omnipotence, omniscience and omnipresence while on earth. The Bible is full of miracles that Jesus did which confirmed His deity, leaving no question as to His divine powers and knowledge. In Jesus, we encounter the perfect union of divinity and humanity. Jesus is not half God and half man, nor is He a mixture of the two natures. Rather, Jesus possesses both natures in their fullness. Colossians 2:9, “Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ. For in him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily.” This passage of Scripture confirms that in Jesus dwells ALL THE FULNESS of the Godhead (i.e., Trinity). There is absolutely no way that Jesus could not have been omnipotent, omniscient and omnipresent while on earth.
Hebrews 5:8-10, “Though he were a Son, yet learned he obedience by the things which he suffered; And being made perfect, he became the author of eternal salvation unto all them that obey him; Called of God an high priest after the order of Melchisedec.” This reveals a voluntary submission by Jesus to His Father’s will, through which He learned obedience as a man. Jesus depended upon His heavenly Father for guidance, setting a real life example for you and me to follow.
So, dear reader, Jesus was omnipotent, omniscient and omnipresent while upon the earth. Every preacher at times goes a stray a bit in his teachings. I heard Pastor Jack Hyles admit that in his earlier ministry he taught heresy. I wrote a blog to refute Brother Hyles' bizarre teaching that Jesus was always human, and that unsaved people are not human. Say what?
To clarify, I DO believe that Jesus is the eternal Son of God. Jesus was the only begotten Son of God before He ever became incarnate on earth (John 1:1-13, 14). However, I do not believe that Jesus existed in His human body prior to being made incarnate. In 1st Corinthians 15:20-23 we read that Jesus was the “firstfruits” of them which slept. That is, He was the first one to be raised up with an immortal, perfect, glorified body. Jesus was not the first one to be raised up from the dead. The Lord Himself raised up Lazarus from the dead (John 11:43-45). Many of the saints raised up from the dead when Jesus died on the cross (Matthew 27:52-53). But these resurrected saints all had to die again; whereas Jesus is forever risen! I humbly do not believe that Jesus had His immortal resurrected body prior to His incarnation. We know that Jesus did have some form of body, in which He made numerous Old Testament appearances.
I have also been wrong in the past in my doctrine. I used to tell people to “ask Jesus into your heart” to be saved, but I learned years later from my ministry friend Pastor Max D. Younce (1935-2023) never to use that horrible term, because it is unscriptural and confuses lost sinners; and it sure does! So I stopped preaching it!
I was also wrong years ago about repentance. I used to errantly preach that a changed life is the result of genuine repentance. That is wrong! A changed life is the fruit of the indwelling Holy Spirit (Galatians 5:22-25), which has absolutely nothing to do with repentance (a change of mind) from unbelief to belief to be saved. A changed life is a matter of discipleship and service, as we become sanctification by the inspired Word of God (John 17:17; 1st Peter 2:2). We must never associate repentance to be saved (unto life) with a change of behavior. To do so is the damnable heresy of Lordship Salvation.
So, kindly said, although I am refuting Pastor Steven Anderson for his bizarre denial that Jesus was omnipotent, omniscient and omnipresent while on earth, I humbly admit that I have been wrong doctrinally in the past too. And so was Pastor Jack Hyles, and every preacher if he is to be honest. That is why Jesus commanded us to 'SEARCH THE SCRIPTURES' (John 5:39), not the latest popular manmade Pulpit Commentary, Our Daily Bread, Sword Of The Lord, nor my blogs. Dear reader, if anything that I write disagrees with the inspired Holy Bible, I am wrong. Let the inspired King James Bible be your only final source of authority.
That all being said, I love Pastor Anderson's stand for THE TRUTH and the soulwinning Faithful Word Baptist Church in Tempe, Arizona. I respectfully disagree with Pastor Anderson on various doctrinal issues, which is to be expected between fundamentalist Bible preachers. Dr. Hyles used to say that at Hyles-Anderson College there are probably more opinions per square foot than anywhere else in the world. I humbly agree! I love and respect Pastor Anderson and pray for his well-being regularly, and for that of his beloved family.
My loyalty is not to men or institutions; but rather, to God and truth. God is not a respecters of persons and neither should we be. I don't care who a man may be, if he's wrong then he must be refuted with the inspired Holy Bible. I humbly think Pastor Anderson is very wrong in this matter of Jesus' forfeiting His omnipotence, omniscience and omnipresence while on earth. The very reason why Jesus did miracles on earth that no other man ever did was to prove His claim to deity. John 10:33, “The Jews answered him, saying, For a good work we stone thee not; but for blasphemy; and because that thou, being a man, makest thyself God.”
Jesus is almighty God, who became incarnate (flesh), and He was 100% omnipotent, omniscient and omnipresent while upon earth.
